I am Don Roe, Senior Pastor, at AUMC. I was appointed to this congregation on
July 1, 2009. Welcome to our
website. I hope you will get a
glimpse of our church here.
Let me tell you a little bit of myself. I grew up in Southern California – in
La Mirada and Whittier. I
graduated from La Mirada High School in 1970. In l974 I received my B.A. from Cal State University,
Fullerton. I attended seminary at
the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. I graduated with my M. Div. from Iliff in 1977. I did an additional year of post-graduate work in the field of
historical and contemporary theology.
I had thoughts of entering into the field of teaching at the university
or seminary level; but, ultimately, I decided to go into parish ministry. I have never regretted my decision to
enter the parish ministry. For 31
years I have served churches in La Habra, Long Beach, Norwalk, Chino, Hacienda
Heights and Fullerton. Each stop
has been richly eventful!
I enjoy reading
non-fiction books. This leads to
my love for adult education in the local Church. I also enjoy working with persons who are working out of
other disciplines of inquiry – such as scientific fields. I also love train travel – be it day
trips or long-distance adventures.
There is something renewing about taking a train.
My wife, Gaylen, and I have been married for 33 years. We have two “out of the nest” children
– Andrea, who is married to Jon West.
They have one child named Ryan.
Our son, Matt, lives near by as well. Gaylen and I are very fortunate to have our family so close
to us!
It is a great privilege to be serving this church family –
the people of AUMC. I hope to meet you soon!
Warmly,
Don Roe
