 Vicky Cooke and Sandie
Duff
Vicky Cook and Sandie Duff received the 2010
Wesley Award from District Superintendent Mark Ullrickson at a special
ceremony on Sunday, February 28. The two are very active in the church
and community and very special people. A well-deserved award...
Thirteen years ago, Sandie
and Vicky became a part of our AUMC family. They have participated I many activities and committees here
at church. Right from the beginning
they found a home, not only with the AUMC family, but also in their
participation with the Missions and Outreach Committee.
Sandie has participated on
the Worship Committee and is currently on the 8:30 a.m. Worship Team. She chairs the Homeless and Local
Missions Committee. She has made prayer
shawls, cooked for our homebound members and has sung in the choir. Sandie also currently holds two Santa
Ana District positions as the District Director of Global Ministries and is the
District Disaster Coordinator.
Vicky started out in
leadership at AUMC by chairing the Missions and Outreach Committee. She handed that baton to Sandie when
she became the church Lay Leader and Church Council Chair. During the next four years, she
remained active with Missions and Outreach and participated with Sandie and
AUMC in several local projects that included Paint Your Heart Out and Habitat
for Humanity. Vicky has been on
several other committees including Share the Vision, Nominating, Worship, and
Trustees. Vicky has also been a
member of the choir. Vicky
currently co-chairs the 8:30 a.m. Worship Team, if a member of the Foundation,
and is the Santa Ana District Lay Leader.
Sandie and Vicky work as a
team. They co-organized the Santa
Ana District Mississippi Rebuild Mission Team and traveled to Mississippi to
rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. They have taught and facilitated a series of Connections
Hour classes, which included topics such as Homosexuality and the Church, the
Muslim Religion, and the Death Penalty.
They have even chaperoned a youth retreat.
While AUMC is an important
part of their lives, Vicky and Sandie both work full-time – Sandie works for
the County of Orange as a social worker; Vicky works for a private real estate
firm. They try to find time to
travel to at least one new place each year. They round out their busy lives with the many family
activities of their grandkids, nieces and nephews. When not at work, church or with family, you just might be
able to find them at the ballpark – cheering on the Angels.
Every Sunday is Special at Anaheim United Methodist Church!
Join
us for a morning of worship, fellowship, friendship, learning and sharing. A
Contemporary Service is held at 8:30 a.m., followed by an hour of
coffee fellowship and classes. A more Traditional worship service
begins at 10:30 a.m. All are family-friendly.
We welcome you, your family, and friends!
