CHANGES COMING TO AUMC WORSHIP SERVICES
OCTOBER 7, 14, 21, 28
NOVEMBER 4, 11, 18, 15
ONE Service Only ~ at 10:00 a.m.
As may be recalled, earlier this summer
many of our church family met to complete and discuss surveys regarding our
current Sunday morning worship offerings. Worship Committee has been reviewing
the surveys and deeply thanks all who have spoken so freely and lovingly. We
will also be sending the surveys out to the congregation at large to ensure
that as many people as possible may be heard.
In the meantime, Worship Committee will
be testing a single-service format in October and November to determine if and
how it may enhance the ministries of AUMC and possibly facilitate the creation
of a weeknight service.
October 7, 14, 21 & 28 ~ All
starting at 10:00 am
November 4, 11, 18 & 25 ~ All
starting at 10:00 am
Because the special September services
start at 10:30 am while the October and November test services would begin at
10:00 am, we will be able to compare attendance and people’s reactions to the
two different start time options for a possible single-service format. Testing
across both October and November will allow Worship Committee to review the
test while it is underway and will afford the congregation ample time to
provide valuable feedback to Pastor James and the Worship Committee. The
November 19 Church
Council meeting will be open to all church members to review the test and
decide what our Sunday morning worship offering will be.
Please remember: THIS IS JUST A TEST,
but we do want to be able to progress toward enhancing our worship ministry and
developing a plan that will most effectively shine the light of God for
ourselves and our neighbors. Your input is encouraged because your voices are
precious to God and to us.
With gratitude and love,
Lee Ann Orme,
Cheri Smith and the AUMC Worship Committee

CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS for the TROOPS
It's that time again. Last year we
filled 90 stockings for our troops in Afghanistan. This year we will be sending
stockings to Chaplains at Kandahar and Bagram Air Bases to hand out as they see
the need. The stockings will be sent out in November but we need them back
early so we can pack them and get all of the paperwork processed.
August: Start thinking of what you
might want to include in your stocking.
September 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21: We will have stockings
available for you to pick up with a list of suggested items (snacks, toiletries, a
Christmas card to sign). Return them as soon as they are filled or no later than October 21st.
October 28: All stockings must be turned in! (as we have
to inventory each stocking and list what is inside.)
November: We will pack and mail boxes as it takes a couple of weeks to get
December: Boxes arrive in Afghanistan for our brave military personnel.
Extra items are always welcomed as well
as the cost of postage ($17.40 per box).
Our next Troop Box packing day is
Sunday September 16th at 10:00 am since there is only one service. Thank you
for your continued support!
Yours in Christ,
The Troop Box Committee

DO YOU HAVE ANY WATER BOTTLES YOU DON'T WANT?
and Outreach are looking for any water bottles you might have that
you've received as a free giveaway at conferences, store openings or any
other event. We are cleaning them, filling them with ice and water,

San Luis Rey Retreat Center
Old Mission San Luis Rey
Dear Church Women,
I’m excited to report that we have booked the location for our
Women’s Retreat on March 8 - 10, 2019. It will be held at San Luis Rey Retreat
Center in Oceanside. I have attended retreats there in the past and found the
grounds and facilities amazing. It is amidst the beautiful grounds of Historic
Old Mission San Luis Rey. In the spirit of St. Francis, they welcome all with
hospitality, simplicity and joy. The Mission sits upon 56 beautifully
landscaped acres so there is ample space to enjoy the quiet and peaceful
The difference other than location of this new retreat is that we
will be spending two nights which includes 6 meals for only $220 per person. We
hope with all this extra time to be able to have plenty of time for reflection
or just enjoying the grounds. Since this is more than last year’s cost, we
wanted to provide time to save for this event. Maybe skip that Starbucks drink?
:) We have 9 months to save up, however, the church will still offer
For those of you who cannot stay overnight we invite you to a day
retreat on March 9, 2019. For those adventurous you may take the train down to
Oceanside or we can arrange carpooling from the church. The cost for the day
retreat including 2 meals will be $45.
We want to provide a time for all women of the church to be able
to be refreshed in their spirits and join in the fun and laughter.
Nicole Armstrong and I would love any feedback on any ideas you
have for themes. But I look forward to another invigorating time of laughter.
