Box of Love

Every October, all AUMC members have the opportunity to fill a “Box of Love”.  The Homeless and Local Missions Team organizes the project for you.  The Canning Hunger Organization supplies and delivers the empty boxes, menus and everything we need to pack the Boxes of Love.

Boxes of Love are essentially care packages filled with food items for those in need at holiday time.  Your Homeless and Local Missions Team Volunteers deliver your filled Boxes of Love to all the apartments at Halcyon, needy seniors at Tyrol Plaza, needy families from Childtime, and set some aside for those of our AUMC family in need.

The Box of Love contains specific items so that each box will be the same.  Many times more than one family lives in the same location.  It is important that the boxes are consistent so one family doesn’t feel like they received less than another.  You will be given a list of exactly what food items to put in each box.

Consider having your children purchase a can of food to put in the box your family is filling, or go together with a friend or friends to fill a box and help defray the costs.

Empty boxes and all the information you need to fill a box will be available in early October.  Filled Boxes of Love are returned to the church by a specified date, usually towards the end of October.  A special area in the church parking is designated for you to drive up and drop off your box.

If you have any questions about this or other mission projects,  please contact Sandy Duff or Kathy Toon.

The Homeless and Local Missions Team hope you take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to serve others and let them know about the Christian love here at Anaheim United Methodist Church.
