Anaheim United Methodist Church

"SAFE at HOME" Project

In loving memory of Bess Whyman, Anaheim United Methodist Church is implementing a new program in hopes of making all of us safer in our homes: the “SAFE at HOME” Project.  Initially, the primary focus of this voluntary project will be our senior members.

Volunteers will go to church members homes to conduct a safety inspection.  This inspection will include but not be limited to, lighting, landscaping, door and window security.  The volunteers will make recommendations to the homeowner on ways to improve his or her safety and security in the home.  The homeowner will also receive a packet of important information on personal safety.

But that’s not all – volunteers will also be available to help implement the recommended changes, including installing lighting, modifying landscaping and installing locks.

SAFE at HOME Project will coordinate with the City of Anaheim to make our efforts as effective as possible.  (The City even has a program offering free dawn-to-dusk lights for residents.)

As the Project develops, we envision additional services such as weekly contact with our senior members, follow-up services, and seminars for seniors and their caregivers.

Before the SAFE at HOME Project begins, we need volunteers.  We are looking for a few people who are willing and able to:
  • Conduct home inspections
  • Do general light landscaping tasks

We are also looking for a few people who have expertise in:
  • Installing and repairing lighting
  • Installing and repairing door locks.

If you are willing to help in this meaningful endeavor, or have any questions or suggestions,

please contact Dennis Gray { dgrayhouse@roadrunner.com }.

Thank you!
