We will be starting a new book study on August 29, 2023. We will be studying the book, Half the Sky, by Kristof and WuDunn. It is about the challenges women all over the world face and how we can help. The title”Half the Sky” refers to women holding up half the sky, being half of the population. This eight-week study will meet on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 on August 29, September 5,12, 19, 26; October 17, 24, and 31. Come and be a part of this eye-opening study.
“In the nineteenth century, the central moral challenge was slavery. In the twentieth century, it was the battle against totalitarianism. We believe that in this century the paramount moral challenge will be the struggle for gender equality around the world.” With Pulitzer Prize winners Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn as our guides, we undertake an odyssey through Africa and Asia to meet the extraordinary women struggling there. They show how a little help can transform the lives of women and girls abroad. Through these stories, Kristof and WuDunn help us see that the key to economic progress lies in unleashing women’s potential. They make clear how so many people have helped to do just that, and how we can each do our part. Throughout much of the world, the greatest unexploited economic resource is the female half of the population. Unleashing that process globally is not only the right thing to do; it’s also the best strategy for fighting poverty.
