Reflection of the Week

Highlights of Worship: March 28th 2021

Hopefully, our Lenten journey of “Loving Life” has restored us all to genuine gratitude for each breath we are blessed to breathe. It’s this pure sense of praise that brought Jesus’ many followers, on that first Palm Sunday, to throw their colorful cloaks and palm branches on the road before King Jesus who entered Jerusalem riding a donkey (Mark 11:1-11).

Please join us this Sunday as we celebrate Palm Sunday, a sacred day in the life of our church. We will remember that our Lord is not one who wants empty acts of devotion or busywork. Jesus, whom we welcome with loud “hosannas,” invites us to love God, neighbor, and life itself with all our heart and soul. See you on Sunday!

Please Join Us for Holy Week:

To conclude our season of Lent, we will be offering creative virtual worship experiences on Holy Thursday, April 1st, and Good Friday, April 2nd, both at 7 PM.

Holy Thursday Service, April 1st at 7 PM will be a live Zoom worship service, where we will experience via video conference the story of Jesus’ Last Supper and the washing of his disciples’ feet. We will share in Holy Communion during this live worship experience (bring your own bread & cup!).

Good Friday Service, April 2nd, 7 PM will be a powerful video recording of our traditional Tenebrae Service of Candlelight and Song. The scriptural story of the Passion of Christ will be read as our choir members lead us in songs that echo the story of Jesus’s resurrection. This video service will be viewed in the same way as you view our recorded Sunday morning worship services. An email with a link will be sent on this day.

Easter Sunday, April 4, 10 AM

Please join us for in-person worship, here at AUMC! To attend, simply register here, or by using the link included in the Sunday worship service emailed to you on Sunday morning. This is the first of our monthly in-person services which will be held on the first Sunday of each month. Other weekly services will continue to be offered through high-quality video worship recordings.

Blessings

Pastor James

Scripture Passages of the Week

Mark 11:1-11

When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples and said to them, ‘Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, “Why are you doing this?” just say this, “The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately.” ’ They went away and found a colt tied near a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the bystanders said to them, ‘What are you doing, untying the colt?’ They told them what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting,
‘Hosanna!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!’

Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
